Today is May 1st, aka 5/01, so it makes sense that today is the day we announce our summer 2017 lineup of events! Our team has been hard at work for the last 6 months, focused on creating a dynamic suite of unique events and interactive programs for college interns and young professionals in our community. We are thrilled with where we’ve landed.
This year’s summer calendar will include two events – the first one and the final one – exclusively designed for interns employed by sponsors of Lansing 5:01. The other three events, taking place in late June and throughout July, will have underlying components that will essentially be open to the public. At those “public” events, there will be VIP Lounges and extra activities/amenities made available to interns and young professionals employed by Lansing 5:01 sponsors. Between kayaking and concerts, and fashion shows, and 3D printers, and river front movies and silent disco parties, our 2017 programming offers something for everyone.
Below is a quick summary of what’s happening this summer after 5:01 p.m. Learn more about the events HERE, and be sure to follow us Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get the latest on 5:01 programming!
Network & Chill - June 1st
We're kicking off the summer with our "Network and Chill" event in downtown Lansing. This event, exclusively for interns employed by sponsors of Lansing 5:01, will start at the Chevy Terrace inside Cooley Law School Stadium, featuring networking and guest speakers from multiple local organizations. Then we'll head across the street to the City Market for a movie on the riverfront with River Town Adventures. Grab your popcorn, your LED-lit kayak, and watch the movie on a 20ft X 10ft inflatable screen.
Bridge Fest – June 15th
A festival expo event highlighting local music, local artists, live art installations with chalk artists and muralists, and local eats on the Lansing River Trail. Come check out our expo featuring interactive booths for local galleries, museums, sports clubs, yoga, and other organizations to connect with Lansing. Feeling sporty? Try out a kayak or bike rental through River Town and get a bite to eat at our local food truck rally! Round out the evening with a FREE concert featuring Michigan favorites: The Accidentals, with special guests, Young Pioneer and Tangelo!
Lansing House – July 6th
An interactive showcase of art, music, culture, tech, and entrepreneurship in Lansing’s Stadium District. Happening on opening night of Lansing's Common Ground Music Festival, Lansing House will feature local artists, techies, and local food entrepreneurs. Stop by Lansing House to interact with LIVE street artists, build your own prototype with easy-to-use 3D printers, and sample (and buy) delicious desserts made by foodie artisans from the #LoveLansing community.
Runway on the Runway – July 18th
Clear for landing! Lansing’s fashion incubator is strutting the runway at the Capital Region International Airport for this year’s premiere fashion show. Discover our bustling creative economy and hub for international travel. End the evening by dancing the night away to live music during our silent disco – that’s right, the ultimate music and dance experience!
Marquee Mingle – August 3rd
For Lansing 5:01's last event of summer 2017, we’ll pack the room with community leaders and company executives to network and meet with interns for an incredible night of networking. We're celebrating the end of summer in style at the Old Town Marquee in Lansing's Old Town. The formal program will feature guest speakers and a grand prize raffle. Afterwards, join a walking tour of Old Town, or check out The Grid, the new bar/arcade across the street!
The 5:01 is looking for guest bloggers to share their experiences on the benefits of living, working and playing in the greater Lansing area.
